We have a newbie manual already; start by translating that to German. Get one language done and others might follow by providing translations for other languages. It can be hosted side-by-side with the current newbie manual. Another possibility - translate www.netrek.org, or at least provide a link to google's translation machinery. > Good idea. We can setup a section on the wiki and have people > contribute translations. Having a multi-lingual client would also be > cool. I brought this up last year on #netrek, and nothing ever became of it. Manuel expressed interest in providing the German translations, but nothing ever progressed beyond that from a server viewpoint. The client and server would both need to be translated as there are static message strings that are dumped out to the client from the server that need to be handled also. According to various people on #netrek, from a server perspective it should really not be overly difficult to do the required conversion to support internationalization; I don't do client-side dev, so I don't know what would be required from that side. Given the recent issues with netrek.org being offline, even with redundant servers, I've put the us.netrek.org zone file into revision control. This will allow the community to help maintain the zone and in the event that SOA servers for us.netrek.org are down, someone can quickly get necessary information for the domain. On that note, I'm looking for someone to step-forward and offer slave services for us.netrek.org outside the midwest region of the US. The reasons are many. The biggest reason is the garbage that shows up in the wiki isn't work the time or effort to constantly clean-up given the size of the netrek community. The contents of the wiki could easily be hosted in a SCM and published via a static web site. So the knowledge in the wiki is not lost, I've put the entire wiki under launchpad and it all accessible via bzr. https://code.launchpad.net/~netrek-server-team/netrek-server/wiki.us.netrek.org Should should allow someone to import that contents into another wiki or static web page. I do think launchpad can easily embody the contents of the wiki in either of the 2 services: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/netrek-server https://answers.launchpad.net/netrek-server Please let me know if you want the information in a different format.
