From quozl at us.netrek.org Mon Jan 5 03:26:16 2009 From: quozl at us.netrek.org (James Cameron) Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2009 20:26:16 +1100 Subject: [netrek-dev] netrek-client-cow-3.2.9 released Message-ID: <20090105092616.GA21553@us.netrek.org> netrek-client-cow 3.2.9 was released, adding an identity blinding feature so that the user can choose not to know who they are playing with, removing the safe-idle galactic status message during clue games, ensuring that a binary distribution includes a copy of the public key, and clarifying the license of the dashboard work by Lars Bernhardsson, under his direction. My thanks to Andrew Bressen for assistance with that. http://quozl.linux.org.au/netrek/ fc88442fa81dc40c6cb65a6ebf0b994b netrek-client-cow-3.2.9.tar.gz diff -ur netrek-client-cow-3.2.8/COPYING netrek-client-cow-3.2.9/COPYING --- netrek-client-cow-3.2.8/COPYING 2008-09-29 14:31:13.000000000 +1000 +++ netrek-client-cow-3.2.9/COPYING 2009-01-05 19:17:43.000000000 +1100 @@ -1,4 +1,4 @@ -Copyright review of netrek-client-cow-3.2.8 by James Cameron on 2008-09-27 +Copyright review of netrek-client-cow-3.2.9 by James Cameron on 2009-01-05. 1. copyright.h, 1986 Chris Guthrie, 1989 Kevin P. In Debian, we're in the unstable (a.k.a. Sid) distribution. When the current testing version, Lenny, is promoted from testing to stable, we can move into the new testing distribution. In Ubuntu, we're in the Jaunty version, which is due to officially release in April. The package name is netrek-client-cow My thanks to James for support on the upstream end, and to Barry DeFreese from the Debian Games team for being our downstream maintainer. This is more architectures than COW has ever had. Side effect of this is that anybody with a Linux or kernel API compatible operating system on any of the supported Debian architectures can grab the .deb, unpack with ar(1), and use the binary therein. If there are people using one of the legacy distributions like Fedora, you could push for inclusion in Fedora at the same time as provide RPMs derived using alien. These changes affect PPAs owned both by individuals and teams. Signed PPAs ------------ Every PPA now has its own unique key, which Launchpad uses to sign the packages it builds in the archive. People downloading a package from your PPA can now verify that it hasn't been altered since Launchpad built it. You can find out how to add the PPA key to your Ubuntu system here: https://help.launchpad.net/PPAKeys Changes to PPA URLs and upload paths ------------------------------------- We want to make Launchpad flexible enough that an individual or team can have more than one PPA. To allow for that, we need to make some changes now. With the release of Launchpad 2.2.1 (due on the 28th January), three things happen: * your PPA's upload path will change from ~user/ubuntu[/series] to ~user/ppa/ubuntu[/series] * your PPA's overview page URL will change from launchpad.net/~user/+archive to launchpad.net/~user/+archive/ppa * your archive's address will change from ppa.lp.net/user/ubuntu to ppa.lp.net/user/ppa/ubuntu To make sure everyone has a chance to get used to these changes, there'll be a period where both the old and new URLs/paths work, after which we'll remove the old versions. However, you should let your PPA's users know about the archive address change as soon as possible. Automatic removal of deleted and superseded PPA packages ---------------------------------------------------------- Until now, when you've deleted a package from your PPA -- or a newer package has superseded it -- Launchpad has kept a copy of the binary and made it available from your PPA overview page. >From now on, whenever you delete a package, or it is superseded, Launchpad will: 1. mark the package as deleted/superseded 2. wait 30 days 3. entirely remove the binary package from the PPA servers. You'll still have access to the build records, the only difference being that there'll no longer be a link to the binary. Important: after the release of Launchpad 2.2.1, on January 28th, we will start removing any packages that have been in the deleted or superseded state for more than 30 days. If you have any questions about these changes, please ask!
