I was reading this article on Slashdot:

and I thought it might be interesting to try something like this here in the
twin cities area.  I've seen people make directional antennas and squeeze
about 7 miles out of a WaveLan card.  One of the sites that the slashdot
article refers to has plans for building different antennas.  

I'm thinking something along the lines of a large private network with
wireless nodes running MRTd (http://www.mrtd.net), and points of access to
the internet at large.  Anyone else think this might be interesting?

FYI, I live 23 stories up in downtown saint paul, so I have a pretty good
view to alot of outlying areas.
