I was reading this article on Slashdot: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/10/04/140229&mode=nested and I thought it might be interesting to try something like this here in the twin cities area. I've seen people make directional antennas and squeeze about 7 miles out of a WaveLan card. One of the sites that the slashdot article refers to has plans for building different antennas. I'm thinking something along the lines of a large private network with wireless nodes running MRTd (http://www.mrtd.net), and points of access to the internet at large. Anyone else think this might be interesting? FYI, I live 23 stories up in downtown saint paul, so I have a pretty good view to alot of outlying areas. ---------- Jay Austad Network Administrator CBS Marketwatch 612.817.1271 austad at marketwatch.com <mailto:austad at marketwatch.com> http://cbs.marketwatch.com http://www.bigcharts.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: tclug-list-unsubscribe at mn-linux.org For additional commands, e-mail: tclug-list-help at mn-linux.org
