I read somewhere that trying to use a kernel module that was compiled
against one version of glibc on a kernel that was compiled against a
different version would not work at all.

Kernel modules have nothing to do with glibc.

I've not had any problems with glibc myself. Though getting a libc5
binary running was an interesting adventure...
