Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this one. Apparently the problem was User Error. Here's what my friend had to say in his last e-mail: > Some dumb-ass had > installed WordPerfect on the friggin 99meg root partition. We removed it. > Then noticed that somehow our var/ directory was *missing*. Our utmp and > wtmp files had been erased, and w,last, syslogd, etc. wouldn't work.
