When the Linux 2.4 kernel arrives in full, it will definitely take better
advantage of the SMP situation than FreeBSD will.  Linux has better Java
support, so if you want that, Linux is probably your best bet.  FreeBSD does
have SMP support, and it is getting better all the time.  So, essentially,
if you don't need high-end Java support, I personally recommend that you use
FreeBSD.
