Just a quick observation from my system RH7.0. When I do a rpm source install, the rpm puts the source under a version number linux-2.2.16 and linux-2.4.0 and creates a link to the direcorty "linux". This allows me to have more than one version in the src directory. I usually have to change the link when I install a different source. Question: I have successfully compiled the 2.4.0 version of the kernel and put it on a floppy. When I boot from the floppy I can see the kernel load and then the system stops. Any ideas what might be causing this. This is the first time I have installed a new version of a kernel so I don't know quite what I am doing, other than preserving the original in case of something like this happens. Most distros keep headers in /usr/include/linux. Most people extract they're kernel source in /usr/src/linux, so many things look there as well. (actually /usr/src/linux/include/) The debate as to wether or not kernel source should actually be extracted to /usr/src/linux or your home directory and compiled as root or a standard user ragers on, but that's another thread. -- Andy Zbikowski, Sys Admin | (WEB) http://www.ltiflex.com LTI Flexible Products, Inc. | (PH) 763-428-9119 (EX) 132 21801 Industrial Blvd | (FX) 763-428-9126 Rogers, MN 55374 | (PCS) 612-306-6055 _______________________________________________ tclug-list mailing list tclug-list at mn-linux.org https://mailman.mn-linux.org/mailman/listinfo/tclug-list
