In the Reynauld article, he makes the point that a lot of people just don't get the multi-user aspect of Linux. I think that's fine; why doesn't someone do a focused single-user workstation distro? The only "special purpose" distros I can think of are things like LRP, real-time linux (not our Real-Time), embedded linuces, etc. Make one that defaults to single-user mode, load it up with desktop gadgets, make preconfigured setups (i.e., the WindowMaker setup, the KDE setup, the fvwm setup, yada, yada). I bet everyone has *some* package installed that they haven't set up beyond the "factory" defaults.
