That's the rule of thumb I used. Since then I have doubled my RAM
(mmm...256). I don't do much swapping until I get a vmware session or two
going. I think the 1.8 * Physical RAM (2 * Physical RAM if your lazy) is a
good rule of thumb. If you're going to put a heavy load on the server
consider adding more swap, linux goes on a killing spree when it runs out of
memory.
