A friend had a basement with 2 inches of water in it this morning, the sump pump quit. His PC (NEC tower case) was sitting on the floor, the drive was mounted to the bottom of the case of all places. The power supply is on the bottom as well. It's like an upside down design. He powered it on but the board on the drive was not totally dry, it trys to power up but shuts off. The board on the hard drive under the wet dust, now mold, had a burned spot. I cleaned the drive with a rag to get the goo off it and used the air compressor to be sure it didn't have any water on the under side. The disk almost spins up but it doesn't last long enough to get going, when the board shorts out. Does anyone have a Maxtor DiamondMax 4320 Ultra DMA , 6.4 GB. "OEM Part Number 90648D3" They don't want or has had a head crash. I need the board from the drive to put on his drive to rescue the data. I can't warrant that a working drive will be working when I'm done. My friend is a little shaken up because he has his sales information for his business on the drive. Not to even talk about the carpet, sheet rock, wains coating, and everything else in his basement.
