Jim,
  Yes, it should be as simple as a standard FC4 DHCP to get an IP address.  A
stock installed DHCP should just work.  If you think you have some "cruft"
left over from the PPPoE configuration, you may want to remove and reinstall
the affected packages.  (including DHCP)  Do you have another network and DHCP
server you can try this on?  Also, check /var/log/syslog for messages.  That's
where my Debian DHCP logs its messages.
