> Does this sound right? That's pretty much it. You can boot a live CD that works on the laptop to figure out which module you need. Once you've determine the right module, add it to /etc/modules and use mkinitrd to include it in a new initrd image. This is a really annoying part of installing debian on some systems, i.e. the installer works fine, but your newly booted system won't!
