a couple of years ago i took a freebsd kernel internals course put on by kirk mckusick and i have to say it was the best discussion of kernel internals that i've ever seen. i still have the course material if you'd like to peruse it to get an idea of what was in that course. i've been very impressed with the quality of the daemon book when there was something that i wanted to dig into i've usually been able to suss it out between the source and the daemon book.
