I am running Slackware 10.1. I just got a new monitor, and am trying to
change the default screen res.

I went in and edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and put in the new horizontal and
vertical refresh rates, and added the new, "1280x1024" to the Modes line for
each defined Display subsection.

I have restarted the machine, several times by now.

When I pull up KDE Control Center, the maximum screen res is the old
1024x768. Running the command xdpyinfo shows the same.

-----

The following two pieces are from the modified xorg.conf. I changed the
'Modes' line on all the Display subsections.

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 1
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection

Section "Monitor"
#DisplaySize 320 240 # mm
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Acer"
ModelName "AL1914b"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 24-80
VertRefresh 49-75
EndSection

---------

I left the rest of xorg.conf the same.

Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks,

Charlie O
