If you don't mind Debian, try this:

http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/beta3/images/netboot/mini.iso

..boots from the cd, and then uses the network to install.

OF course, since you've got a core2duo, you'll want a 64-bit distro:
