(ASCEND) USR 28.8 problems?

A while back, I upgraded to an incremental 4.6C load on my MAX 2000,
to get the fixes for compatibility problems with USR 28.8 modems.  And
the fix worked fine.  Now I've upgraded to 5.0Ai10 (to fix another
problem), and my USR 28.8 users seem to be having the old problems
again.  Has anyone else seen such behavior, or am I imagining this?
