We fixed the 14.4 connect problem by loading 5.0ai13. The only difference I
can readily see is an extra tone heard before the connect sequence. The
14.4 modems for some reason hears this tone as something else and never
starts its handshaking (my speculation). After lodaing i13 the tone went
away and the 14.4 on our bench connected every time (as well as all the
other 14.4 customers who kept our support lines busy). I don't know if it
has helped the dropped connections yet though. We have had a lot of
complaints since adding the 56k modems.
