This may be totally unrelated, but I noticed a MAJOR improvement when moving from 4.6C to 5.0A, and another MAJOR improvement on the one I just loaded 5.0Ai10 on. I don't know what they did to the modem code between 5.0A and Ai10, but now everybody's happy. Even the Sportster folk, who have typically not been as fortunate as non-USR users.
