I use a P75 to connect to different ISPs (non concurently). Two ISPs have MAXs & PRIs and another has a Portmaster w/5BRI cards. I've noticed that the connects to the Portmaster are much quicker than connections to either of the MAX-based ISPs (~2 sec total vs. ~5 sec total). (one is UUNet and the other is a local provider). The bridisplay + wandisplay data below seems to suggest that the P75 re-transmits its initial LCP packet twice (total of three times) before recieving a response from the MAX. These traces were made using a "test" profile on my side that is designed to fail the LCP negotiations (it refuses to do PAP) to try and reduce the scope of the problem. The part that I am concerned about can be seen in the "P75 calling Max" listing starting at time:4617.90. The P75's first LCP request seems to have to be retransmitted twice (total of 3 times) before the MAX responds to it. The same symptom is seen calling a local ISP's MAX and calling the local UUNet number. The second listing shows the WANNEXT output from the local ISP's MAX for the *same* call as the P75 calling MAX listing. Notice it seems to only see the final transmission of the P75's first LCP request. I assume it was the final transmit solely from the fact that there was no *observeable* delay in the streaming of the MAX's debug output to my screen (i.e a risky assumption). The third listing shows what the P75 says is happening during a connect to the local, Portmaster based ISP. It was made using the same profile as above (just changing the phone number). Notice that at time:4362.88 the P75 sends its first LCP request and the Portmaster resonds -- no retransmissions needed. I'm hoping for assistance with the following: Is it normal for a P75 to retransmit its first LCP request when calling into a MAX w/PRI service? If not, what settings should I look at changing to fix it? Is there a way to see the LAPB headers for packets on the P75 and on the MAX (I'd like to see the HDLC sequence numbers that the P75 is sending and which ones the MAX is receiving)? If not, is this something the telco (USWest, 5ESS w/NI-1) should be able to provide? Thanks in advance, Bill ==================================================== P75 calling Max: BRI-XMIT-0/2:(task: 2C9E90, time: 4616.81) 30 octets @ 2CFDD4 [0000]: 08 01 0A 05 04 02 88 90 2C 07 32 32
