I have endless battles with the telephony guys in operations about this -
they want things like "G.703 all the way through" (instead of using an NTU
- - that's NZ for CSU). They don't seem to care that the interface
required to do this natively is horrendously expensive and a pain to
provision.
Would you believe for recent project, they told me I was:
1. Not allowed to use multimode fibre,
2. Not allowed to run cables in conduits between racks,
3. Had to drill a hole in the exchange floor, run single mode to an
approved patch panel, and drill another hole up in the other rack - for
two racks almost next to each other??? ARRRG!
Life inside a telephone company is just as bad as outside - we internal
customers don't get any favours... :(
