Re: (ASCEND) Who's fault? P75 or my ISP. Cannot get on the Net.

Edwin,

You're providing conflicting information in your email. For example, in
one place you say you have a single IP from them, then you provide a
netmask for a 32 IP subnet. Which is it? Where does 200.200.200.200 come
into play? You still need an IP from your ISP to do NAT (I believe).
Those are rhetorical questions though:

In any case, it definitely sounds like a routing problem since your IP is
in a different Class C than the remote's IP. Perhaps they are not routing
that subnet or Class C (whichever would be appropriate for them) to/from
their device that you're connecting to. BTW, in option 1, you DO have your
computers' gateway set to 209.81.153.178, right?

It actually should have been less than two hours of work after your P75 was
configured (maybe two to four hours to get that just right), and they never
should have needed to bother Ascend. Cleveland is a big city and I'm sure
there are many ISPs there. With two weeks and your system still not
working, you'll probably be best off switching to a more competent ISP.
There are probably competent ISPs serving the Cleveland area on this list
that can get you going by tonight.

I serious don't think it could be a problem with the P75, unless it's
mal-configured. If you bought it from them, that would be your ISP's fault
also. Ascend has their own problems (ALL TECHNOLOGY DOES), but I'd
recommend stick with the P75.

It sounds like you have a dedicated account. If that's correct, I have no
idea why Ascend would suggest you'd need a dynamic IP. That sounds
completely stupid, but there are things I don't know about NAT, so maybe
it's not. If you do NOT have a dedicated account, assigning you a static
IP is completely irresponsible, IMHO, since those are limited in quantity
throughout the world.
