Re: (ASCEND) MAX Authentication with CHAP or PAP



Facts:

Password = "UNIX" in radius requires PAP authentication. It is impossible
to do CHAP because the CHAP algorithm requires the radius server to have
the clear text password.

If you set the Max to accept either CHAP or PAP, then according to the PPP
authentication algorithms it must request CHAP from the client first. And
unless the client rejects CHAP initially it cannot fall back to PAP.

Conclusion:

You must set the Max for PAP only

	OR

All clients wishing UNIX authentication must be configured to reject CHAP
(which is not possible with Windows 95 DUN among others).
