mostly true... 
anyone who has opened up a older p75/p130 can tell you that 
the main board is labeled "P50 w/ POTS" and that the "POTS" 
or the T1-CSU are a daughter cards plugged onto the mainboard.
(not saying that i've opened them, that might void my waranty ;^)  )

if you remove the card you essentialy "downgrade" to a p50.
there may even be genuine p50's using the same board
that could have a daughter card added, 
but I've never investigated that part...

yes, the new models have larger RAM  (2Mb -> ?3Mb?)
and larger FLASH (1Mb -> 2Mb)
