(ASCEND) Pipe 130 WAN light, Ethernet collisions

We have a client with a Pipe 130 running 6.1.5 connected to a 384k
point-to-point T1 and it's WAN light appears to behave totally randomly;
sometimes it's on, sometimes it flashes on and off equally, sometimes it's
70% on, 30% off. Makes no sense. At all times, the T1 is operating
perfectly.

What should a Pipe 130's WAN light be doing when the Pipe is connected to a
point-to-point T1 and the ISDN port is unused (no connected line)?

Also, they observe the Collision light lighting most times there's traffic,
and they have ~10 machines doing light duty on an Ethernet. I calculate
their collision percentage at .35%, which seems fine. For comparison, a Max
4000 of ours on it's own port on a switch sees .30%. Why would they see
collisions at all? Ethernet primer, please?
