(ASCEND) MAX TNT - Is it a good product.

Hello Ascend users,

I have some questions as our University is considering purchasing one or
more Max TNT boxes to provide high density dialin support. I have several
questions, please answer as many as possible. The configuration we would
run would be using a CT3 card to bring in 56K calls digitally into the
box.

- First, is the TNT product mature? I've heard there was an initial
release of the TNT which had throughput problems but that Ascend now has a
second revision of the TNT box which fixes the throughput problems. Is
that the case? How can the various hardware revisions of the TNT be
identified?

- Is Ascend's V.90 code working well? How is the connect rate and
sustained rate of 56k calls?

- Is Ascend's CT3 card stable.

- What is the best way to manage a TNT and how good is each way?
  -Command Line Interface
-SNMP via OpenView or some other NMS.
-Via an Ascend supplied management application?

- How well does a TNT which is fully loaded (multishelf system wiht
720 digital modems) seem to handle the load? What bottlenecks appear to
exist, if any?

- Has the documentation improved any since the Max 4002 days?

- What problems does the TNT currently have regarding stability?

- What other problems exist in the TNT?

We will have a unit for a very short eval soon, but the experience from
members on this list would be very helpful.

thanks very much for any info
paul
