(ASCEND) BAD b-channels ??

Just recent (last few days only) we seem to be sufferring a weird
problem....

Scenario:

Max 4000 5 x 12 k56 modem card & 1 x BRI card.

Symtoms:

User dials in and connects ok, then after between 60 & 90 seconds
later gets disconnect.

Log shows either 185 or 100

Now the wierdness:

this only seems to happens on B-Channels of one PRA & channels number
17 to 31

I thought I might have a heap of dead modems, but thats a furfy
because the pool is then utilised from the  second PRA.

Actually tonight the problem seems to have spread and starting to
effect some of the b-channels (in the low numbers) of the second PRA.

I did a reboot just to start from scrath and it has made no
difference.

Can anyone seriously suggest anything which might make sense ??
