Re: (ASCEND) Pipeline 75 and Livingston Portmaster 2E (no reconnect)
Aren't proprietary protocols fun? Ascend's won't do it unless the server
is an Ascend, or just recently, if the other end supports BACP.
Lucingston plans BACP support RSN for the PM3, but not the PM2 AFAIK. The
frustrating part is that neither Ascend's MP+ (or whatever they call it
these days) nor BACP is needed. If the P75 would just ask for another
channel, it would get it. Plenty of other TA's can do this with no
special protocols. Netopia, 3com, BitSurfr Pro, etc etc.
Same thing with DBA. Ascend will only support it with another Ascend, or
with a server that supports Ascend's own MP+ (are there licensing fees
for this?). Why does the server have to get involved? The P75 can just
watch packets and determine when to bring up/down the second channel on
its own. What's the big deal guys? Kevin?
I've just started recommending products other than Ascend because of all
this crap. Too many headaches. After 40 or 50 Pipe installs, I'm moving
on to greener pastures...
