- if the win9x computer has trouble with serial speed then sw compression
  is useful ( external 56k modem, bad UART...)

- if the win9x computer has ISDN or dual ISDN then sw compression is *very* useful

Otherwise the sw compression is not necessary: modems do compression
themselves, and it doesn't work with NT.

We have it on, and it doesn't cause any trouble for us.
