RE: (ASCEND) P50 Software Upgrade
My original post (now rather stale) asked for assistance re upgrading
P-50 software. I called the ISP, Clark Net in Maryland, and ended up
talking with a Verio tech support person in Dallas (Clark Net was
recently sold to Verio) who weas very knowledgeable but unable to
resolve my immediate difficulty (unstable connection to remote P-60,
but he emailed tech at Clark Net. This followed several days of futile
calls to Ascend, then posting to this group. Dean asked whether the
P-50 really WAS running 3.x and, when I attempted another remote login
to confirm my recollection on this point the P-50 failed to respond,
but showed version 4.5 (I think)...another login 30 minutes later
showed 4.6Cp8. My conclusion: Clark Net was upgrading me while I was
trying to ascertain the version #. Strange experience.
The P-50 is now very solid and seems a tad faster than before. I just
installed the (very sweet for only $100) throughput monitor CyberGuage
that draws a pretty real-time graph of traffic volume through the
router....too bad I didn't have it running before this problem.
Thanks to Jim, Steven, and Dean for the great responses. No, we won't
be selling the P-50 (yes it is an old one with the slide switch on the
back).
..just noticed that Steven is at Verio...a couple of days after above
Verio/Clark Net incident, a woman from Verio called me to ask whether
our difficulty had been resolved OK....best tech support action I've
experienced in a long time. Thanks, Verio...good luck with your stock
IPO.
