This sounds like the dreaded Trunking Problem. One of the specific
symptoms is that folks can connect Just Fine everywhere else. I don't
know how your telco is, but ours is loathe to even admit the possibility
of such a thing, so they don't check trunks without severe provocation.

Well, the law of averages says that there will be some folks who can't
connect to each ISP. When you're small, each one is a Big Deal, but once
you realize that the rest of the ISPs are having the same trouble, it's
not so bad.

Nope. Because for the caller's modem, one retraim may be sufficient to
disconnect it. I think that maybe it could be called (carrier loss after
retrain)_.

Heh. I have a guy with a Thunderbyte or somesuch modem and another with a
Monorail. Not all sucky modems come from USRobotics.
