(ASCEND) 2400 baud

Does anyone know if a max4000 with k56 modem cards will answer a 2400
baud modem?  Yes, they are still in use :)  Modem details: telebit
octocom osi 8124a.

From the modem noise, it seems to connect (answer shows up in status),
but the speed negotiation fails - it just abruptly stops.
