More like 1/3 of market value.  I'm constantly getting offers of new 4048's
for well under 10k.  I've got a fan rattling on my oldest Max and I'll
probably just glue a second fan to the outside of the case and let it run
in tandem the way the fan the back of my old 386 print server does.  I
can't see spending even $1800.00 to get a $5 fan replaced.  I wonder if
there's any warranty issue with fans glued to the outside of the
case...<grin>
