Re: UDP communications (was: Re: Crossfire client)



 There is no reason that a client could not know the various spell
effects.

 However, the problem with the method is, that it makes adding custom
spells to the various servers difficult.  Now all the spells would need
to also reside in the client, so when ever a new spell is added to a server,
that change would also need to be made to all the clients.

 If the server sends messages to the client about the various effects
(ie, draw fire, center 5x5, radius 10), then the client does not need to
know what the spell actually is.  This allows people running servers to
add or change spells, and still let people with most any client play.

 Otherwise, you might very well have one client for each server.
