Re: Patches, ftp, new releases.

I will be taking over maintenance of the crossfire list shortly. Our
mail administrator has been to Usenix, and got back to work half an
hour ago. (He has a mail queue of things to do some 600 messages
long...)

You may send unsubscribe messages directly to me the next couple of
days, I'll tell you when crossfire-request points at me.

Mirrors are generally one-way, so you must put your changes at
ftp.ifi.uio.no, Mark, lest your files disappear altogether.

Indeed, the differences between crossedit 0.7 and crossfire 0.90a must
be sorted out whether or not we do the server/client thing (and we
will, of course, eventually). The unified diff 1.7 MB.... Good luck
Mark :-)

Some points in favour of each:

Crossedit 0.7 has removed omaps, better system for archetypes and
named bitmaps, a special font file for speeding up reading pixmaps
and probably lots more. (technical things, you see)

Crossfire 0.90a has randomly generated artifacts (ie. a sword can
become sword of Moria), encounters (randomly generated sub-maps),
cursed/damned items (you should identify), special magic item types
   (rods (recharging wands), horns)

So Crossfire 0.90a has many playability enhancing
additions. Unfortunately, Crossedit has changed the directory
structure of the code as well. What I am trying to say - it will be a
lot of work merging the two whatever you do.

BTW, Crossedit 0.5 was integrated at some point. Frank has it all in
CVS, so if _you_ find an interesting date, you can get a snapshot
(modulo the erratic frequency of check-ins :-)

Frank *has* tried to use Purify, but he couldn't get it to
link... Let's hope you guys have more luck with it.
