You don't have to anyway! The current map editor provides mouse/keyboard
methods which will let you write those fields into exits WITHOUT typing
them in manually.

The map editor's really pretty good, IF you RTFM.
(Crossedit.doc)

After finding out about that capability, and some other keystrokes
which make editing objects much easier, I've been a lot happier
with the map editor.

My main gripe now is that there are not "Hot keys" for commonly used
functions, like "save" "cut" "paste".... Also, I'd like to see the
map editor 'autojoin' two maps seamlessly. It is a pain to do it
oneself.

Does anyone know how to bind "Alt P" to paste, for example?

I really think you should work with the current map editor,
and extend it to have whatever features it lacks, than re-doing the
whole thing. It really seems to have been well-done.

(And I'm NOT speaking as an author--I had nothing to do with the
creation of the map editor.)
