Re: CF: backup save at home?

Regarding features such as save at home which could be used to cheat:
there is a tradeoff between preventing cheating and protecting players
against crashes and other game problems. The difficulty is many problems
cannot be distinguished between intentionally caused by player (cheating)
or caused by game. If the players are honest then all problems are caused
by the game so features such as save at home are fair since if player
wants to return to map then he can.

While saving in map instead at home would appear to make sense, there is
the question of when was player saved versus when map was saved. If
player used up all potions to kill big bad monsters and is returned to
map without potions, but with big bad monsters then that is hardly fair.
I suppose if every time player is saved then that map is also saved then
being restored to map would be fair. But what then if map still isn't
reset, but was saved more recently than player? Map could have regenerated
many monsters. Also, there is always the possibility that a previous map
was reset and now player cannot safely get out. So I do not think there
is a method to accurately determine that would be true often enough to
be worthwhile that returning player to map is known to be fair.

If you are really worried about cheating then best way to handle this is
to always return player to original position in map and if that is unfair
then player has to ask DM for divine intervention to edit the player file
and move player back to a safe spot.
