I could make healing help on diseases which are 'progressive', meaning
they get worse with time and eventually kill you.  Making diagnosis
difficult I agree with, though it'll be easy enough for the PLAYER
to diagnose a disease.  They'll all have their signature effects.

I have no idea how to do this.  More trouble than it's worth, I think.
