How about 'cure disease' requiring spell components, in some cases?
It is important that disease not be too hard to cure, otherwise
a deadly one may kill a player before he has a reasonable chance
at curing it.

Note that diseases have a level, and the player (or caster) of
cure disease must be of higher or equal level to cure it, though
lower-level cures are possible with repeated attempts, with
decreasing probability as the level of the player decreases.

The diseases you can get from needles are pretty harmless
right now on purpose. They are demonstrations. Also,
I wanted to dilute some of the deadlier traps so that
low-level players would not face sudden death as often.

Go catch as many diseases as you like from diseased needles.

They are intended as nuisances and amusements.

I prefer to require spell components for some of them, or
perhaps require 'invoke cure disease of red death'?
Then the player will have to diagnose the disease.
Diseases should be fun by their various effects though.

It'd be simple enough to have the server check for diseases
cured whenever a player ate/drank anything.

Someone else mentioned alchemical cures for diseases.

None of the diseases that are currently implemented in
diseased needles traps are contageous. It is certainly
possible though.
