CF: New to CF

I'm relatively new to CF and just joined this list.

I'm curious what work, if any, is being done to make this more "internet
friendly".  By that I mean more efficient for many simultaneous
connections.

Also, how upgradable are the graphics?  Can any .xpm be substituted in
for the various graphical pieces?

How about porting to other OS's?  

Are there any currently active servers?  I found a list on the Internet,
but it seemed to be fairly outdated.
