I think the main balance issue is the amount of treasure compared to the
toughness of monsters. Secondary is large areas with lots of monsters that are
more or less trapped and which you can get lots of exp by casting the right
spells.
As for dying: A lot depends on how you play the game. Certainly, it is quite
reaonable to play the game and never die. However, that is much easier to do
as experienced players (we know what level the character should be before
trying to take on hill giants or dragons, or whatever else.) Newbies might
have a more difficult time since they don't know that.
Even if you are experience, if you play aggressive, you can die. However,
that might also depend on server settings (if death is permanent, I would
certainly play very cautiously) However, to me, some of the fun is the
agressive playing - I won't do stupid things, but agressive playing gets exp
faster and is more interesting.
