CF: Diseases in crossfire
I propose to add 'diseases' to crossfire.
My intention is that there be no spellbooks or prayerbooks of
diseases, but rather they be granted only by
altars.
Followers of Jehova have powerful holy word/holy orb spells.
Other religions are not necessarily so lucky.
I hope to address the balance issue by granting the ability to cause
plagues....
The key points on diseases:
1) Communicability (spread from monster to monster)
2) Disability (reduce stats)
3) Lethargy (reduce speed)
4) Duration (length of illness)
5) Level (difficulty of cure and immunity)
6) Specificity (affects certain sorts of monsters)
7) Virulence (how much damage it does)
For example, a player might acquire a case of athlete's foot,
which is not very communicable at all, barely causes any disability,
does no damage, but lasts for weeks and really has only the effect
of periodically printing 'you itch between your toes! What IS that
disgusting smell'?
Tetanus would also be incommunicable, but much deadlier.
The flu would be highly communicable, induce lethargy and disability,
last for a short time, but not do much damage....
Ebola would kill quickly, and be highly communicable, so much so
that the plague rapidly 'burned out'.
Experience would be granted to clerics for 'curing' these diseases,
according to the deadliness/difficulty of the disease. Natural
recovery from a disease would grant limited immunity.....
No experience would ever be granted for curing a disease caused by
a player, to prevent abuses.
