I had this kind of setup for quite some time --- it's not easily
implemented. The client needs to be setuid <server owner>, you need
lockfiles to prevent multiple servers from popping up on different
machines (and be sure to handle ctrl-c properly or the lockfiles will
stay around), you need to store the current server machine
somewhere... this kind of stuff.

Hm... granted, it would be easier for non-networked machines, but it
doesn't really make much sense to run crossfire on such a machine
anyway (IMHO, of course) --- too boring.
