netbeans crashing on 64Mg

Has anyone tried running netbeans (included in the RH6.0 application CD).
How does it rate to other programming interfaces?  Better? Terrible?

When I try to compile, it works .... I guess ... but it's final words
before death are "here's  your application.....[crash!]"  Then it
dissappears leaving only the digital clock--which the tutorial has you make
as a demo--ticking away.

The README/requirements say 64Mg is possible but 96Mg is better.
So do I assume I've been told?  Or is there something else I can do to
optimize this application so it doesn't burp like this?
