AWT

I have done very little with the GUI side of java and I am really not getting
it. :-)

I come from an X background so, I thought AWT would be a snap, but I cannot
seem to figure display an image in the background and widgets on top of the
background.

I am also looking for a good site or book on the advanced(?) uses of AWT.
