resume format (was Re: I'm new...)

Most people can handle a msword file, since we've HAD to learn how to.
You're right, though.  It's one strike against you. :-)
The formating will also be butchered (see below).

HR at SGI wants a *text* resume.  As a job hunter, I wouldn't like that,
since I'd like to use more elaborate formatting, to make the resume
easier to read.  However, we ship resumes around in email, and if you
don't send them in text, we convert them to text, and you're not
in control of that conversion, so it will end up looking like crap.
This, of course, is the exact opposite result of not sending it in
text in the first place!!!

What I'll probably do the next time I job hunt is to create an HTML
version of my resume, and put it on an external web page somewhere
(you can get free web pages about a zillion places).  This will give
people trivial access to a pretty version.  I'll also create a text
version, put it on the web page too, and add a link to it on my html
version.  This way, to send my resume, I can either send the pretty
HTML version and/or the text version.
