Linux Router Project questions

  What I would like to be able to do here is have a box of some type with
a NIC and a modem in it that would dial up to the net on demand, and allow
the rest of my boxes (different shades of windows) to be able to see the net.

  I was looking into the LRP project, and it _looks_ like that might work,
doesn't really
say for sure one way or the other from what I have read of the FAQ so far.
  What I have been trying the past week or so is a Win 99 box running WinProxy,
and
well it works to a point it's cludgy, hangs the modem up at random times, dials
out
when I don't want it to etc.
  I was wondering if any of you had come up with any soulutions for what I
gather
could be a fairly common need such as this.
