I remember a discussion about ugly fonts.  I ran across a
font-deuglification HOW-TO (not searching for font-anything, just happened
across it while searching for something else linux-related). It isn't part
the officail LDP, but I think it should be.  Actually, I think the
installation material provided with the various distributions should
specifically point you at this HOW-TO.
