 Hey, everyone!
I have an install problem that I am hoping you can help me
with.
I am trying to dual install Slackware 7.0 with NT 4
Workstation. I have two disabled onboard IDE controllers. Installed in one of my
PCI slots is a Promise Ultra33 controller. When I boot from the Boot/Root disk
set, fdisk/cfdisk (I've tried with both) see the only drive (8.4 Gig) as hde.
When I try to install, it bombs. I looked in /dev and found that there is a file
for the drive, but none for the partitions; EG: hde exists, but hde(1, 2, 3,
etc) does not.
I know that the problem is that Linux is still recognizing the
onboard controllers, but do not know how to prevent it. I either need to know
how to prevent Linux from assigning those controllers to hda-hdd, or I need to
know how to create partition files for hde in /dev.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
