SMP and Adaptec 2940
Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out here.
I've been running a server with a single P-Pro 200 CPU for awhile now.
I just installed slackware 7 on it, and it's been working fine. I
received a second CPU (same stepping, completely compatible as a 2nd
processor in the machine) today. When I add in the second CPU (after
adjusting appropriate jumpers) and recompile the kernel to add SMP
support (w/o changing anything else) I start getting SCSI reset errors.
The board is a tyan S-1662 (440BX, I think) dual processor. I'm using
Pentium Pro 200/256k with SY032 stepping. The SCSI card is an adaptec
2940U/W, and I'm using the aic7xxx driver in the kernel.
like I said, the machine works flawlessly, and then I recompile the
kernel and only add SMP support and I get SCSI bus resets and timeouts
during boot. It won't get past that.
I even went so far as to grab the bleeding-edge 2.3.9 kernel and try
that. Same results.
I've tried searching for linux+smp+adaptec and such, but haven't found
anything relevant. Lots of stuff from 2.1.x and the machine hanging,
but nothing for this. Any ideas?
Much thanks,
Adam Maloney
