I was under the impression that the difference between the 2930 and the
2940 was that the 2940 was capable of bus mastering (for hard drives) and
the 2930 was meant for zip, jaz, cdr, cd, scanner stuff.  This may also be
the difference between the chipsets too.
here is what's reported by the lspci -v for me:
00:0f.0 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7881U
        Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 15
        I/O ports at 6c00
        Memory at e4001000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
